Forensic Science Hit Outcome Tracking from InVita

Track Every Forensic Hit with Ease and Accuracy

Forensic labs work tirelessly to link crimes to potential suspects, analyzing evidence, obtaining forensic matches, and notifying investigators. But what happens after a CODIS hit letter is sent?

Was it received?

Was it investigated?

Was the right action taken?

Tracking these outcomes is crucial but managing them manually can be time-consuming, error-prone and lead to delays. Inefficiencies in an investigation can cost lives.

FSHOP_Justice System NEWW

Criminal justice investigators need an easy way to receive, organize and manage the influx of forensic hits.

InVita's Forensic Science Hit Outcome Tracking System (FSHOT) changes the way these hits are managed, reported and communicated between laboratories, law enforcement agencies and prosecutors' offices.

Effortlessly follow the hit investigation process from start to finish, ensuring every hit is confirmed, acknowledged, investigated, and appropriately documented.

A streamlined system that tracks hit letter receipt, investigation status, turnaround times, post-hit actions, and more.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the system track the forensic type for the sample and offense type for the offender?

Yes, those are current capabilities of the system.

What if an agency doesn't follow up on a hit?

The system tracks whether each agency has confirmed receipt and document the outcome of their investigation. If there is no follow-up, the system flags it for review and sends reminders to the Law Enforcement Agency or Prosecution Office reminding them to complete their next step. This allows labs to take appropriate action and ensure that no hit is overlooked.

Are there limits in this system in terms of the number of agencies or users?

No. The system is completely scalable and users can be delineated by role (standard/administrator.)

How does the system ensure every hit is tracked?

Forensic Science Hit Outcome Tracking System generates automated status notifications, allows multiple members of each agency to be notified, organizes hits into worklists and dashboards, and flags hits in the worklists to allow stakeholders to quickly review actions that need to be completed.

How do LEA and Prosecution Officers connect to the system?
The Policy Center will enroll portal sites manually or through data collection forms. This allows users from multiple agencies to have unique portal sites in the system so they can monitor hits that have been assigned to their agency.
What is the Investigative Search Tool?

One of the most compelling features is the Investigative Search Tool. This allows law enforcement to query all matches connected to a specific individual or profile. By linking multiple cases to a single DNA profile, officers can create a more comprehensive view, building stronger cases for prosecution.

Can the system issue reports automatically in LIMS or only send emails?

You can integrate our system with your Laboratory's Information Management System (LIMS) or you can enter the hit information into the system manually. Once the hit information has been entered, the notification will be issued for LEA to acknowledge the hit.

Can the data be filtered or tracked by grant award numbers?

We can do that by integrating that field from your LIMS system or you can use a dynamic search to retrieve that information.
